Environmental pressure and weather
Daily pressure, starting terrain, periodic garbage, and weather.
Daily environmental pressure
Completing exploration advances the day count. Each daily increase randomly raises one of the lowest-level eligible negative modifiers, comparing levels again after each increase. Casual, Standard, and Hard add one, two, and three levels per day, with each modifier capped at level five. Viewing nodes and arranging modules do not advance exploration.
Pressure changes supplies and starting terrain in later battles. Bottom Pressure also adds garbage rows periodically during battle. Camp rest can lower existing negative modifiers, and pressure events can change them too. See Maps and events.
Starting terrain
Initial terrain grows with the day count. Negative modifiers further change its curses, Obsidian, and Pollution. This determines occupied space at battle start, separately from garbage added during battle. See the modifier reference for individual effects.
Map weather and battle weather
Map weather changes as you explore. It starts clear, has a grace period, then may develop, strengthen, or fade. Battles use the effective weather on entry; first-layer battles stay clear.
Battle weather triggers after placements, not every few real-world seconds. Liquid continues to flow after rain arrives.
Weather effects
| Weather | Main effect | Default interval |
|---|---|---|
| Rain | Drops Water in a band above the board surface | 8 placements |
| Snow | Freezes Water and drops Snow | 8 placements |
| Wind | Aligns a selected row band toward the wind direction | 8 placements |
| Thunder | Strikes a high target and also brings rain | 10 placements |
Weather strength changes the amount of precipitation or the affected area. A preview appears as a trigger approaches. Wind needs an area that can actually change; its icon does not guarantee the same number of blocks will move every time.
Bottom pressure
The negative Bottom Pressure modifier periodically pushes garbage rows up from below. These rows contain gaps and Cursed Blocks, with later curses becoming tougher.
Periodic garbage and unresolved enemy threats both reduce board space, but resolve independently. Bottom Pressure has five levels, with intervals of 24, 20, 17, 15, and 14 placements. Each trigger adds two rows.
Blocks being pushed above the board and overflow caused by a failed placement are also different events. See Overflow rescue and survival.
Wind alternates direction between triggers.
